Box Score – Recap – Video
The Golden Dragons B Team looked to bounce back from a disappointing performance against Cesar Chavez Charter School earlier in the week. The Maryland Crusaders stood now stood in the way of the first win of the season. This was also the first tournament game of the summer for the Dragons and the excitement level was high.
Unfortunately the excitement did not translate into immediate success. The Dragons encountered a familiar problem and turned the ball over six times in their first eight possessions. Immediately the team was down double digits and in a major hole. After reaching 20+ turnovers in the first half, the Dragons were fortunate to only be down 28-14.
During the break the team regrouped. Rising senior and team captain, Alexander Kuhnel of Denmark, put the team on his back and looked to be a man amongst boys. He was relentless on defense and controlled the glass on both ends. Kuhnel scored 14 points, grabbed 13 rebounds (6 offensive), blocked 9 shots, and was 6-12 from the field.
Despite missing a triple-double by one block, Kuhnel was not able to help close the gap. In the end, turnovers were the story again. The Dragons gave the ball away 32 times and the Maryland Crusaders won 52-37.
