Andreas Jönsson has signed with West Virginia Tech University for the 2017-18 academic year. West Virginia Tech is one of the top NAIA basketball programs in the United States. This past season WV Tech finished 2nd in the conference and 24th in the national poll. They also qualified for the national tournament before losing to 2nd seed Robert Morris University.
West Virginia Tech assistant coach, Nick Kjaerholt said of the signing,”We are excited about having him part of the family. He is a great fit. If he does well he could compete for a starting spot.”
Andreas joins WV Tech after one season with Global Squad. As a member of the Gold Dragons he appeared in 15 games. Andreas led the team in 3-point percentage, and finished 2nd in both steals and in assists. Andreas had his best game of the season vs one of the top AAU teams in the country. He tallied 13 points, 5 rebounds, and shot 3-for-3 from three. Andreas also set the Global Squad career record for 3-point percentage (48%).
We cannot wait to see how Andreas does at the college level. As a member of Global Squad he showed the ability to defend top U.S. talent. He showed the ability to shoot from range at a lights-out percentage. He also showed the ability to create for teammates. Andreas will have a great challenge as he joins an high-level program, but we know he’s capable of contributing early and often.
Congrats, Andreas! Good luck next season!
