Global Squad 2011 Recap

Twelve players from seven schools and five different countries made up the first ever Global Squad in July of 2011. The team competed in five tournaments in New York, Baltimore, and Washington D.C. They also went head-to-head against local Maryland high schools in weekly scrimmages.

The competition was tough, featuring All-Area, All-Met, and All-State college basketball prospects. At first, the competition seemed to be too much for the Global Squad. They began the summer by posting a 2-9 record. Despite the slow start, this group of international college hopefuls continued to work hard, improve their skills, and finished the summer by winning eight of their last fourteen games. This included a six game winning steak and a tournament championship in Staten Island, New York (pictured above). After an excellent showing in the Big Shots DC Assault tournament, the final record stood at 10-15 for the summer.

The most exciting parts of Global Squad 2011 were the recruiting opportunities. Prep schools and colleges from around the country expressed serious interest in Cooper Hamaliuk, Brad Johanson, Lawrence Lee, and Jenning Leung. You can read all about the details in our recruiting section.

Overall it was an incredible first year for the Global Squad program.
