Just two days after nearly beating, Team Takeover, one of the best AAU teams in the country, the Golden Dragons were confident going into their first tournament of the summer. Head Coach Kevin Breslin did his best to keep the team focused and motivate to play a less talented but dangerous team in the Washington DC Vipers.
The Dragons started out very hot from the field and scoring off easy turnovers. The early lead quickly ballooned to 18-5. It was far from over though. The DC Vipers chipped away at the lead and got within three points with six minutes left in the game.
After the Vipers made their run, the Dragons made a run of their own and push the lead back to double-digits. They were able to close it out 58-45 with strong defense and timely shooting down the stretch.
Coach Breslin, always coaching and looking for ways to get better, said,”We executed pretty well but the overall effort on the boards just wasn’t what it needs to be. I expect much more in the next game.”
It was a solid start to the tournament season but the competition is going to get tougher. Peter Moller led all scorers with 17 points on 8-13 shooting. Adam Holm-Weber had an all-around excellent game with 7 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds. The team shot 50% from the field and only turned the ball over 11 times.
