Malekai Mischke (17, USA), of the International School of Beijing (ISB) and Global Squad alum, will join NCAA D-III Carleton College in August. The 6’3 sharpshooter will come in as Carleton’s top recruit at shooting guard for class of ’18.
This comes on the heels of a dominant performance at the APAC 2014 tournament in Kobe, Japan. Malekai put together one of the best individual 3-point shooting displays in recent APAC memory. He scored 29 vs Canadian Academy, 22 vs TCIS, and was named APAC All-Tournament while leading ISB to the championship.
ISB has now won the APAC Championship three times in school history. Malekai has played for two out of three of those Championship teams (’12, ’14).
Malekai won’t just be missed by the ISB basketball program. From 2011 – 2013, the Global Squad relied on Malekai’s scoring, which contributed to the Global Squad winning two AAU Tournament Championships – one in Washington DC and New York.
Individually, Malekai has been an absolute stud for the Global Squad. For his career he ranks 1st in free-throw percentage (87%), 2nd in 3-point percentage (45%), and 3-pointers made (50). He is also 4th in points (338), 4th in rebounds (130), 4th in field goals made (128), 5th in assists (84), and 5th in steals (39).
Probably the most impressive thing Malekai achieved while in a Global Squad uniform came vs “Reach 1 Teach 1“, an AAU team out of Florida. Malekai scored 19 points and didn’t miss a single shot – going 7-for-7 from the field, 3-for-3 from long range, and 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
It goes without saying that we, here at the Global Squad, are extremely excited for Malekai. Just 3-years ago, college basketball seemed like a near impossible goal for this Minnesota native. Yet after many hours of hard work, discipline, and perseverance, Malekai has reached his goal. Additionally, not only will he be playing college hoops, but Carleton College is ranked in the top-10 for all National Liberal Arts Colleges.
What an accomplishment! Congrats Malekai!
